When we talk about snakes, you might think about poison instead of venom. However, there is a main difference between poison and venom. We will get the danger of venom when it is injected to our body. Meanwhile, a poison can danger us even by touching it or maybe by eating it. Most snakes in the world are venomous. Some of them are venomous and poisonous. The list below are the list of the most venomous snakes in the whole world, and of course they are deadly:
1. Indian Cobra
If this snake pops up in your mind once you read the words ‘venomous’ and ‘deadly’, you don’t go wrong. Certainly, cobra or “naja” is the deadliest snake, at least in Asia region. Once this Indian cobra bites a man, that poor man will get a respiratory failure in maximum 15 minutes after the bite. Thousand people in India die each year because of cobra’s bites. They, unfortunately, can’t get antivenom or any proper care to neutralize the cobra’s venom immediately.
2. Indian Krait
Still from India, Indian Krait (Bungarus caerulus) causes a lot of mortality caused by snakes, in southeast Asia. Actually, this black snake is not too active, but they search their foods (rodents) in human’s house. Its bite doesn’t hurt their victim, so the victim won’t feel pain and won’t realize that they are bitten. Moreover, most of victims are bitten when they sleepn when the snake enters their house to hunt its prey.
3. Eastern Brown Snakes
From Asia, let’s move to Australia. Eastern brown snakes (Pseudonaja textilis) is known as a venomous, deadliest, and also active snakes. They bite not only to defend themselves from a menace, but they also invite human to attack them. Then, when a man are hooked to attack them, they bite the man and his fate won’t be too lucky. This brown snakes’ bites are painful since its first bite. It will swell the lymph and becomes a trigger of bleeding in the mouth, anus, and also the bladder. Without any artificial respiration and an injection of antivenom, the neuron system’s failure will occur not more than 30 minutes since the brown snake injects its venom.
4. Ocellated Carpet Viper
Ocellated Carpet Viper (Echis ocellatus) is the deadliest snake in the savannah. We can find this 2 feet snake in western Africa. Its bite causes more than 20,000 deaths of agricultural workers per year. Actually, its venom reacts slowly but it causes big damages. Starts from causing pain and swelling near the bite, follows with massive tissue damage, to the bleeding throughout the body after a day. To save the ocellated carpet viper’s victim, we need transfusions too. Antivenom treatments alone is not enough to save the victim. If the victim is not given a proper care, the collapse of the respiratory system will haunt the victim.
5. Neotropical Rattlesnakes
This snake is spread widely in America. From the southern, the central, until the north of America. When they bite their victim, their venom won’t give any impact like swelling or bleeding, but it does cause a death. Neotropical rattlesnakes’ venom is an untreated venom and it contributes to the hundreds death in America, especially in Brazil. Neotropical rattlesnakes, also know as Crotalus durisus, can easily be recognized from their tail, which are vibrating and
creaking.
6. Belcher’s Sea Snake
If you think that snakes only exist in the land, you’re wrong. Even sea threat you with snake menace. For example, this Belcher’s Sea Snake. Although its size is small and thin, but this snake is known as the most venomous snake in the world. Imagine, only by using a few milligrams of its venom, this snake is capable to kill 1000 people! Belcher’s sea snake (Hydrophis bulchari) can be found in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia’s water. As it is found in the sea, most of its victims are the fishermen.
7. Nubian Spitting Cobra
Are there any venomous snakes in the desert? The answer is yes, there are. Nubian spitting cobra (Naja nubiae) is one of them and it is also venomous. The bite itself is potentially deadly. Additionally, its venom can spit over and reach the eyes of the perceived predators.
From the lists above, we can learn that our scientists have found some antivenoms to neutralize the snake’s venom. However, it works successfully only if we take care of the victims as soon as possible, with a precise and proper care. A late handling of snake’s bite will give the unwishing results. It means, preventing snake’s bite is better than taking a risk to be bitten and gambling with the antivenoms. Use the proper and safe clothes whenever you go to the place that venomous snakes can threat you.
