Dangerous, fussy and tough to look after are collective reputation for keeping exotic animals as pets. Primates, big cats and pythons are the example of risky pets, and extreme dedication from its owner is required for this animals. However, there are exotic pets that easy to look after, and this is the list:
1. Corn Snake
With their colorful variation of skins and its nature that reluctant to bite, cornsnakes are very popular among the other pet snakes. Cornsnakes are nonvenomous and docile. They can be fed pinky mice regularly and they can also live up to 20 years.
2. Leopard Gecko
They can be fed with vegetables and various kinds of insects, such as crickets, grasshoppers and cockroaches. Leopard geckos are one of the few reptiles that like being handled by their owners. Leopard geckos can live up to 20 years.
3. Wallabies
These marsupials are closed-relative with kangaroos. They eat vegetables and various kinds of foliages. They are less than a meter tall and live for up to 9 years. A large yard is needed for keeping wallabies as your pet.
4. Tree Frog
These tree-dwelling amphibians don’t demand constant attention from their owner. Tree frogs require a moist habitat with a few trees and easy access to water. Tree frogs favorite meals consist of crickets and mealworms. Their lifespan are 5 years.
5. Fennec Fox
They are not completely domesticated, but become very tame if the breeders raise them. With their large ears and 8 inches tall, Fennec Fox is definitely the cutest fox in the world. The large surface area of the ears means the fox can easily lose heat through them. Fennec Fox is a good urban pet because of their tendency to retain water. They can live up to 12 years.
6. Sugar Glider
This is a small flying squirrel originated from Australia. They can live up to 17 years in captivity. Their diets are mealworms, insects, fruits, and vegetables. Attention needs to be given to their calcium intake and low calcium intake, which affect their rear limbs the most, is a widespread condition in pet gliders. They are very social creatures and should be kept in a group.
7. Muntjac
Muntjac is a bit larger than a cat. These kinds of deer may not be everyone’s first idea of a pet, but if you manage their instinctual chewing habit, muntjac will be a prized pet. Their lifespan is 20 years or more depends on their captive area.
8. Kinkajou
Kinkajou is a tropical rainforests animal. This animal is like a hybrid of a hamster, a squirrel, and a chinchilla. Kinkajou is also known as sugar bear. Their sportive, mischievous and playful nature is the reason why they are suitable to be kept as your pet.
9. Piranha
It’s a vicious and you need to be extra careful while feeding them. Piranhas are aggressive and eat flesh. Always take advice from experienced aquarists before setting up a niche for it because you never know, it can bite your hand with its sharp teeth.
10. Potbellied Pig
They were first introduced in the US and then in Asia. Potbellied pig can be easily tamed because of their responsible, calm and affectionate nature. They are not only lovable but also among the smartest animals in the world.
11. Madagascar Cockroach
It grows up to 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. They are hardy and their shell is colored magnificently. The presence of cockroaches is generally a nuisance to house. However, Madagascar cockroach is unlike ordinary cockroaches. They can makes for exotic pets for children.
12. Tarantulas
They are large hairy spiders with a coat of varying colors. Tarantulas are usually calm in nature. Do not try to provoke them because they can spit out their venom as reflex action. Taming tarantulas is a challenging task. Therefore, you must be very cautious while rearing at home.
13. Petauristini
This animal is quite different from normal breeds of squirrel. Petauristini has the ability to keep the atmosphere of your house with their vibrant nature all day long.
14. Hermit Crab
To name of few, the Ecuadorian crab and the purple claw crab are two famous species of hermit crab. This creature is neither a hermit nor a crab. It’s popular to be very adaptable and sociable. A tropical climate condition is a must if you want to keep these creatures as your pets.
15. Egyptian Predator Beetle
The larva has a large head capsule, flattened form and prominent mandibles. The adults measure approximately 1.5 inches with six white spots on their black body. They can be fed with other insects and snails.
As you can see, not all exotic pets are large and ferocious. Most are completely harmless and quite easy to look after. Once you get these animals home, look after them for as long as they need to.
